To be sure that a boy will be born, a pregnant woman hit a nail in her head
A pregnant Pakistani woman hit the nail on the head after a healer persuaded her that this was the only way to ensure she would give birth to a boy.
According to Deutsche Welle, neurologist Haider Suleman, who treated the patient at Lady Reading Hospital, the 5 cm nail entered the woman’s skull but did not reach her brain.
“A woman from her neighborhood did the same thing [hit a nail in the head] and gave birth to a boy, despite the ultrasound indicating that she would give birth to a baby girl,” she claimed.
The woman initially claimed that she had put her own nail into the doctor’s advice, but then admitted that she had done so. Attempts by family members to remove the nail from his head were unsuccessful.
When the mother chose to drive the nail, it appears that she already had three daughters and was expecting a fourth. She also said that her husband is upset with her because she doesn’t have a boy, and that he has threatened to divorce her.
In South Asia, a boy is thought to provide better social and economic security to his parents than a girl.
People seeking spiritual remedies to their difficulties in Pakistan often seek the help of healers. According to The Indian Express, the majority of these healers are Islamic clerics and other religious figures.
