After the death of his loving wife, Liam Neeson stood strong for his teenage sons
Liam Neeson is without a doubt one of the most well-known performers in Hollywood. He’s had a long and illustrious career, starring in blockbusters like Schindler’s List, Taken, Star Wars, and Men in Black, to name a few. His tremendous career in the film industry fully represents who he is as a person.
Liam Neeson is a great husband, father, and man. Today’s story is about a man who lost his loving wife, remained strong, and cared for his teenage boys while remembering about love of his life.
Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson were made for each other.
Liam and Natasha met while performing in a Broadway play in 1993, and they knew they were meant to be together. They fell in love right away and married in 1994. Micheál and Daniel, the couple’s two children, were born to them. For 16 years, the happy family lived a wonderful life until tragedy struck.
The pair was visiting the Mont Tremblant Ski Resort on March 18th, 2009, when Natasha had a skiing accident that resulted in a severe head injury. She was rushed to the hospital, but her brain damage was so serious that she suffered internal bleeding.
Liam speaking to CNN’S Anderson Cooper about the awful day:
“I was told she was brain dead. And seeing this X-ray it was, like, “Wow.” You know. But obviously she was on life support and stuff. And I went in to her and told her I loved her. Said, “Sweetie, you’re not coming back from this. You’ve banged your head. It’s– I don’t know if you can hear me, but that’s– this is what’s gone down. And we’re bringing ya back to New York. All your family and friends will come.” And that was more or less it. You know?”
He also discussed how the pair struck an agreement and how Natasha’s organs are now helping others:
“She and I had made a pact. If any of us got into a vegetative state that we’d pull the plug. You know? So when I saw her and saw all these tubes and stuff, that was my immediate thought. Was, “OK, these tubes have to go. She’s gone.” But donated three of her organs, so she’s keeping three people alive at the moment. Yeah. Her heart, her kidneys and her liver.”
Losing someone you love can leave a huge hole in your life and ruin your dreams, but Liam remained strong and understood he had to be a responsible and caring father to his children even if his partner was not present.
Liam was an amazing human being who always held Natasha close to his heart while raising their sons and ensuring that they were cherished completely.
Liam continued his interview with Anderson Cooper by talking about his wife and how much he loves her:
“She was a radiant beauty. Yeah, cascading hair. I remember. There was– that was very, very attractive.”
“I’d never had that kind of an explosive chemistry situation with an actor, or actress.”
“She cared for everybody. She has a motherly instinct. And she’d make dinners for everyone and just looked after us all.”
According to ABC News, Liam spoke to GQ Magazine about raising two adolescent boys:
“My boys are teenagers. They’re experimenting. They’re flexing muscles and sometimes dangerous avenues, and you think, ‘F***. If Tasha was here, someone could share this.’”
He spoke about the importance of a mother figure, according to the Belfast Telegraph:
“Not having a mother figure definitely set the balance of the family off.”
Liam Neeson has all of our love and admiration; he’s a kind soul, a wonderful parent, and his love for his wife is admirable.
