Moving in silence in the era of social media
I’m sure this sounds familiar. Well, the opportunity that sounds perfect ultimately arises, or we finally get news on things we’ve been wanting. We all recognize that we have all the needed qualifications or the opportunities, so we call on our family and friends to share the news. We start to ask them what they believe. We open ourselves to other perspectives while also showing them what this could ultimately mean for us. Our friends entertain the “Hows,” “When,” as well as the “What ifs,” sounding happy to hear our news. We may also make a little post about it on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, feeling we already have it solved, so why not flex a little?

“Move in silence, only speak when it’s time to say Checkmate.”
Next thing we know, after all, shared excitement, things go south – they don’t follow through just like we’d thought. Confused or frustrated, we start to think about what we could have done differently. Well, ma’am, buckle up because we will show you the importance of moving in silence.
Moving in silence is taking action and working towards getting something done. You could be working on something bigger in your life without sharing it with the world. This applies to any project, job, relationship, job, or event that can change the fate of your life.
- Never announce things…Prematurely
There’s no coincidence when we announce something prematurely, and it fails to happen. In announcing things to the world, we already sign up to have our value compared to the opportunity. However, this doesn’t mean people don’t weigh us well; it’s a good Segway to saying don’t jinx yourself by simply talking about the changes until the opportunity has been secured.
But don’t get things twisted; it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t collaborate. On the contrary, colleagues, family, and friends have a crucial role in your success and overall happiness.
- Get off your phone
More often than not, when we become motivated, we begin to search for validation. As a result, we often distract ourselves online with the reward of what we love doing most, forgetting that we need to solidify ourselves first.
And by staying off your phone during the early stages of our new job or projects, we allow ourselves to be fully present and immersed in the opportunity. In addition, it prevents us from being discouraged by seeing others who may be farther in what we’ve just started.
It’s always nice to note that your journey is yours and social media is just a place where people show their highlight reels. So, never get distracted! You need not see what others are up to when you are just starting up your own life.
Remember, with every moment we show these characters, the stronger what we are looking for will seek us in return. So, learn to move in silence and only announce things when they’ve been completed. Cheers!
