Hugh Jackman and his extraordinary wife Deb are celebrating their 26th wedding anniversary
Few things in this world make me happier than a handsome man who adores his wife. Not his Instagram influencer wife or his Sports Illustrated cover girl wife, but a man who adores his actual, down-to-earth, beautiful wife — you know, the one who is just like the rest of us “regular” women.
Hugh Jackman, the stud and Hollywood heavyweight, is one of the best at it, never failing to make us swoon with his declarations of love for his wife.
Hugh Jackman and his wife Deb met on the set of the Australian television series “Correlli” in 1995.
“Deb, she was a big star,” he says. “Deb is in the front seat of the car when I am picked up,” he told People, “I’ll never forget.”
“She took off her seatbelt and she turned around and put out her hand and took off her sunglasses and said, ‘Hi, I’m Deborra-lee Furness, nice to meet you.’ I remember thinking, ‘I like this girl,’” he declared.
Hugh wasn’t sure if Deb would ever feel the same way about him, despite his obviously instant love for her.
That was all cleared up after he asked her and a few pals around for dinner at his house.
Hugh revealed his affections for the actress that night after she accused him of “ignoring” her.
Deb told him she felt the same way, much to his delight.
“She goes, ‘Oh? Because I’ve got a crush on you too.’ I never in a million years thought she reciprocated,” he declared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The couple got engaged after four months of dating and married the following year.
The wedding was almost canceled after Deb attempted to break up with the actor after only three weeks of dating.
They obviously figured it out.
Another thing that this couple has going for them is their honesty when it comes to their IVF process.
“You don’t know how little [infertility] is discussed until you go through it…. And it was a challenging time, to say the least,” Hugh told Katie Couric about his wife’s struggle with infertility, which began when she was in her forties and tried to start a family.
Unfortunately, the couple’s protracted battle resulted in two miscarriages during IVF.
The couple decided to adopt because of the emotional and physical toll it took on them. Oscar Maximillian and Ava Eliot, a boy and a girl, were adopted. Hugh claims that adoption was always an option for them.
They also recognized the importance of reaching out to youngsters who were frequently overlooked by prospective parents.
In 2017, the Les Mis actress told People, “Our motivation behind adopting was, ‘Where is the need?'”
“And we just knew from talking with people in that space, when we were looking around, that the biggest need is in mixed-race kids.”
“I believe in life and I want to tell my kids that your personality is interesting, it in some way very much defines you, the color of your skin, whether you’re a male, whether you’re a female, but that’s not who you really are,” he said. “What really defines you is beneath all that.”
Despite the challenges, this couple has repeatedly demonstrated that true love exists – even in Hollywood!
Now, as he always does, the actor is paying his wife a beautiful tribute to celebrate their 26th wedding anniversary.
“Today I celebrate 26 years of marriage to my extraordinary wife,” Hugh said alongside a selfie of the pair at a beach.
“Every single day is filled with so much laughter, joy and backgammon! Deb you light up my life. I love you with all my heart!” he concluded.
