Due to a mistake, a 35-year-old lady was declared dead
A 35-year-old lady from the North East of England received an official letter from the Government a few weeks after she applied for support to bury her mother, informing her that her children’s allowance would be stopped because she had died.
Samantha Coburn, 35, claims she sought help from the state when her mother, Tracy Woodhead, 55, passed away on December 16. According to The Mirror, a mistake was made when Samantha’s claim was being processed, and she was declared dead.
The woman, a mother of three, received a letter from the government approximately a month after filing the application, expressing regret for her loss. “We are sorry to hear that Samantha Coburn is deceased,” the letter said, dated January 27. Officials went on to mention that her child assistance payments would be stopped and a new application should be made.
“My mother passed away last year, and I needed help paying for her funeral.” When I applied for a death grant, they unintentionally gave me my death date. My mother died on December 16th, and this is the date she “registered my false death.” Everyone started claiming I was dead around a month after the call! I was certified dead in black and white right there. “It seemed unusual to read this about myself,” the woman expressed her unpleasant surprise.
This, she claims, left her without enough money to feed her family, forcing her to urgent seek for social assistance. More than that, Samantha claims that her application for her mother’s death has been denied since her brother was already hired. The authorities have yet to comment on the situation.
