Betty White’s former employee tells a touching story about the late actress
Betty White embodied the entire package. She had the heart of a lion, the compassion of a Saint, and a sense of humor that would have you doubled over, laughing.
She was an unapologetically positive force in the world, and our lives are a little less bright and a lot less funny without her. Betty White’s former assistant recently shared a touching story about the late star, giving us even more reasons to adore the legend that was Betty White.
As difficult as it is to believe, the world has now been without Betty White for three months.
After suffering a stroke six days earlier, the comedy legend died peacefully in her home on December 31st, 2021.
Betty was the epitome of a television/film icon, with a seven-decade award-winning career.
Betty dedicated her life to film and bringing joy into the lives of everyone she touched, best known for her roles as Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rose Nyland in Golden Girls.
Earlier this month, an old post from Betty’s official Facebook page resurfaced, demonstrating just how wonderful she truly was.
The post was made by Kiersten Mikelas, who worked as Betty’s assistant when she was alive. Kiersten is now in charge of the late actor’s social media accounts.
“So, I try to stick to strictly Betty posts, but when this popped up in my own FB memories this morning, I just had to share,” Kiersten explained.
“It’s a great way to see her personal sense of humor and sweetness, and start the weekend with a laugh,” she captioned the photo.
Kiersten begins the April 1st, 2021 memory post by explaining how much everyone adores her boss, Betty.
Kiersten quickly follows up by saying that she, too, adores Betty White, but not for the reasons that others might assume.
The former assistant describes how Betty discovered her crying in the backyard after she’d been dumped by her then-boyfriend.
“Her first thought was, ‘Well, now I guess we have to rename one of the ducks.'”
Kiersten provided context by explaining that a family of ducks decided to make their home in Betty’s pool.
“In an act of love and support, she named one of the male ducks that have taken up residence in her swimming pool after my former dude.”
Betty initially suggested that they refer to the duck as “the duck who shall not be named.”
Betty stepped in to comfort Kiersten as her tears began to flow uncontrollably. “Oh, honey,” Betty said, wiping Kiersten’s tears away. “We can simply refer to him as the duck who sucks!”
Kiersten ended her post by saying that Betty’s kind and supportive words immediately brought joy back into her life.
Betty’s fans and supporters were so moved by her thoughtfulness that they had to express their gratitude.
“It truly warms my heart to hear these true stories about Betty, showing her love, humor, and kindness,” one Facebook user wrote.
“I’m not sure what I like better, her naming options for the male duck or the fact that she had ducks living in her swimming pool!” another user commented.
These touching anecdotes serve as a reminder that, while Betty is no longer with us, she will never be forgotten.
So, the next time you see a duck floating around in your swimming pool, pond, or anywhere else, remember Betty and “The Duck Who Sucks.”
