Father takes back his daughter after his mother secretly gives her up for adoption
‘My Daughter Was Stolen’: A South Carolina man recounts his battle to reclaim his child after an underhanded adoption and works to assist other fathers.
While we want to share pleasant and good stories, certain situations are so shocking that they can’t be overlooked.
This one is from South Carolina, where a woman gave her daughter up for adoption without informing the father, and the father is fighting a long battle to reclaim his daughter.
Christopher Emanuel works as a forklift driver in South Carolina, and he met Skylar’s mother (who shall remain anonymous) at work. They struck it off, and their friendship grew into a partnership over time.
“She listened to the same music that I listened to,” Emanuel told ABC News about how it all started. It was unique, to say the least. I’d never met somebody like that before, but I thoroughly loved the time we spent together.”
Emanuel was happy with her; his relationship was important to him, and he was eager to move forward with her. Emanuel found out he was going to be a parent after three months of dating. He was in heaven! His role as a father was extremely important to him.
Emanuel explained:
“Who wouldn’t be happy?”
“It was my first child, and I was planning to be there at the time.” We’ll do everything we can to get the job done.”
But, not long after these blissful months, things began to shift. Emanuel sensed a nasty sensation in the air when the families met. The family of his girlfriend was against him. He believed his girlfriend’s family was racist and prejudiced.
“Like hearing racism but actually feeling it, it totally different. It’s like being punched in the stomach,”
“The crazy thing about it was when we left she reassured me that we would continue to raise our child together.”
Things became even more suspicious when Emanuel’s girlfriend requested that he not attend her regular medical checkups because her mother would be present.
Emanuel explained:
“I was like, ‘Dang, why can’t I come to the doctor’s appointment?'”. I can’t even imagine being present at my child’s birth if I can’t make it to the doctor’s appointment.”
Concerned about the situation, Emanuel’s half-sister informed him that she believed they were planning to adopt his daughter. She also recommended him to join South Carolina’s “responsible father’s register.” Unmarried fathers can be contacted if something happens to their children using this program.
Emanuel had second thoughts about signing up, but after his pregnant girlfriend failed to show up for her baby shower, he immediately did so. A messenger arrived at his home a few days later, informing him that his daughter had been given up for adoption by the mother.
Emanuel, now a stunned and heartbroken father, discovered that the lady he loved not only didn’t notify him about their daughter’s birth, but also secretly put her up for adoption. But that wasn’t going to hold him back or prevent him from becoming a father. He put up a good fight. He questioned his girlfriend about it, and she admitted that her family did not believe he could provide a nice life for Skylar.
Skylar was set to be adopted by a couple from another state in the United States who couldn’t have children of their own and were looking forward to meeting their new daughter. They were misled about Emanuel’s existence, being informed that he was a “absentee father” who was no longer involved in the family. But Emanuel was not going to let that stop him from reclaiming his daughter!
“No one can love my daughter the way I can. It don’t matter what type of title you have, that’s my daughter. You can’t take my daughter, give me my daughter, that’s all that mattered.”
He waged a three-month custody fight for his daughter after going to court with proof of his presence and ability to be a capable father. And in the end, he triumphed!
Emanuel and his daughter, Skylar, have a happy and healthy life now. He’s a fantastic parent that looks after and protects his daughter.
Emanuel also founded the “Sky is the Limit Foundation,” which promotes the importance of strong, responsible fathers who love their children unconditionally.
