Before dying of cancer, a 19-year-old teenager donates £1,000 of his funds to help a 6-year-old kid
This is the story of Rhys Langford, a 19-year-old boy who was fighting cancer and gave £1,000 of his own money to rescue another child, Jacob Jones, before passing to the disease.
In real life, superheroes don’t wear capes.
Rhys Langford was from Ebbw Vale, Wales, UK. He died of osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, when he was 19 years old. He fought illness for a long period, but it eventually caught up with him and took his life on February 8, 2022.
But, before he died, Rhys heard about a six-year-old kid named Jacob Jones who was battling a rare kind of cancer called neuroblastoma, which begins in the body’s early nerve cells.
He gave £1,000 of his own money and launched a GoFundMe page for Jacob, a child he had never met but wanted to help.
Rhys’ mother paid tribute to her son on Facebook, writing:
“My hero, my kid, my darling, my fighter, has given up the fight. He put down his sword and died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.”
“On the evening of February 8, 2022, about 7 p.m., he closed his eyes for the last time. We’re devastated. My life will never be the same after this trauma. A part of me has also passed away. He fought a long and difficult war.”
Jacob’s family, according to WalesOnline, had this to say about the unfortunate event:
“We are deeply sad and upset. The love, compassion, strength and courage Rhys shared was unbelievable. He will never be forgotten and because of his kindness Jacob will have a better chance of battling whatever he is faced with.”
“We will never be able show how much Rhys and his family mean to us. We are overwhelmed by the fundraising by Rhys and we are heartbroken and our thoughts are with his family.”
Rhys established a GoFundMe campaign to assist Jacob fight his uncommon cancer, and it has raised almost £64,000 so far. It’s still going strong, and you can help make Rhys’ last dream come true by contributing to their GoFundMe campaign here.
Jacob’s family has even created a Facebook page named “Jacob’s Fight” to track his progress.
