Chuck Norris is one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces. He’s been in a slew of action films and has shared the screen with some of the industry’s biggest names. During his career, which spanned the early 1980s to the late 1990s, he starred in a number of important and memorable action films.

This is the story of how this brilliant actor took a break from acting when his wife, Gena O’Kelly, became ill. As a kind husband, he stuck by her side and did everything he could to assure her recovery.

They met in 1997 and married in 1998, making their union a marriage for the ages spanning more than 24 years. They are the proud parents of two gorgeous twins.

While there is no doubting the couple’s undying love and devotion to one another, Gena’s health began to deteriorate when she had an MRI in 2013. She had a lot of discomfort in her nerves and kidneys after the MRI. She suspected the contrasting chemical, gadolinium, that was injected prior to the MRI was to blame.

While speaking to Hello, Gena said:

“Within hours after the first jab I felt like my whole body was on fire — as if acid had been passed through it. The burning was isolated at first, but it just kept spreading… I just lay in bed on an IV for five months and had to have round-the-clock nursing care. Chuck slept beside me on the couch and never left. I prayed that I would live to raise my children.”

After the MRI, Chuck Norris spent upwards of $2 million on his wife’s treatment. He left his job and is now striving to raise awareness about the dangers of gadolinium.

According to Good Health, Chuck Norris spoke about the situation:

“I’ve given up my film career to concentrate on Gena, my whole life right now is about keeping her alive. I believe this issue is so important.”

Gena’s diseases are now being treated with stem cells. She and her husband have also filed dozens of cases against pharmaceutical companies for failing to provide enough information regarding these MRI IV injections.

We wish Gena the best of luck in her recovery!
