A cyclist helps a dog with a broken leg by taking him into town on his bike

Jarret Little was mountain biking with a group of friends near the woods in Columbus, Georgia, when fate interfered.

Before finishing their journey, the gang took a break on the side of the road to reorganize. A dog limped out of the woods all of a sudden. “We came to a halt to reorganize, and he emerged from the woods to greet us. He was so emaciated, ribs were showing, and he had a lot of road rash and a fractured leg.” The dog appeared to have been injured by a car and was in desperate need of assistance.

The cyclists provided water and tasty dog treats. Little was aware that he needed to assist the dog, but he lacked the means to do so. Then he resolved to lift the dog onto his back and bring him into town for assistance. He tucked the dog’s shattered leg inside his shirt’s back pocket with care. The photo of Little’s dog on his back has gone viral.

A woman was immediately interested in the injured dog when they arrived in town. Andrea Shaw was in town on business when the adorable dog snatched her up. When Shaw called her husband shortly after meeting the dog, she stated, “I’m saving this dog – he’s bleeding and damaged, and I’m not leaving him.” She took Little’s dog and took him to the vet. “She opted to keep him and have him medically examined,” Little added.

Shaw generously covered the cost for the surgery and repair of the dog’s broken leg and broken toe. Her immediate attraction to him compelled her to take him home and raise him as her own. She arranged for Columbo, who was named after the city where he was discovered, to be transported to her horse farm in Maine.

Shaw and Little were supposed to cross paths and save the injured dog. “We would not have met paths with her if I had been five minutes earlier or five minutes later,” Little says of the fateful encounter.

Columbo, often known as “Bo,” arrived in Maine safely to begin his new life. “After four pins to stabilize the fractures and a full cast on a front leg to stabilize a broken toe, Bo traveled with 25 staples in his hind leg,” Shaw wrote. She was so taken aback by Grateful Doggies that she had them deliver Bo to her house. “They gave him all of his meds and kept him comfortable until I could pick him up.”

Shaw created a page called The Adventures of Columbo to bring fans up to date on Bo’s progress and to support other dogs in need. Bo is settling in to his new home and getting to know his new siblings, particularly his BIG brother Luquillo. He’s making progress and has recently begun physical therapy to help him walk again. While his other dog siblings play, he has his own “convertible” dog box to snooze in. He gets to eat wonderful goodies until he is able to run again. Bo, we wish you a quick recovery!
