After 30 years, preschool sweethearts reunite on a dating website and get married
This amazing story sounds like it might be straight out of a fairy tale! It’s located in St. Petersburg, Florida, and it’s about two preschool sweethearts who grew apart as their lives and schools changed, met again on a dating website after 30 years, and are now married!
True love never ends
Justin Pounders and Amy Giberson met at Sunshine Preschool when they were both three years old and became best friends. According to their teacher, the two were in a cute connection and were quite friendly with one another.
Diane Twar, the school’s former owner and teacher, claimed in an interview with PEOPLE:
“They had a blast with each other,”
“It was a quiet, bashful romance. They liked each other from afar, it was a young love, like a sweet crush, you know? They insisted on sitting next to each other in our school picture.”
Because they attended different schools and colleges after preschool, the two became estranged. They both grew apart, forgot about each other because they were so young, and went about their lives without speaking to each other. But fate had other plans for them, as they would cross paths again!
Justin and Amy did not know each other anymore by the time they were 32 years old. They both returned to St. Petersburg and began searching for love on online dating services. Something incredible happened one day: they found each other on the dating website Match.com!
When Justin spotted Amy’s profile, he immediately messaged her. He sensed something, something new and old at the same time. It was something he informed PEOPLE about:
“I saw her photo and for whatever reason, was instantly drawn to her,”
“She just had this great energy, you could tell. I can’t explain it, but I knew I had to get to know this girl.”
They started talking to one other on a regular basis after a chat and decided to meet for their first date. Keep in mind that these two had no idea they were from the same preschool class.
Amy mentioned it in an interview with PEOPLE:
“Of course, at that point, we still didn’t know we had been pre-K sweethearts, but when we met up and we hugged, it was like I had known him my whole life,”
“When I first saw him, I felt that I was staring at the man I was going to marry.”
Amy and Justin fell in love and began dating the instant they met, still not knowing that they were childhood sweethearts.
The pair discovered that they were the same Amy and Justin who had been in love a long time ago, over a year after their first date. Amy described how they discovered the information:
“We were in the car and Justin casually mentioned that he loved my name because he had had a crush on a girl named Amy in his preschool,”
“Then I joked to him, ‘Well, it’s not me, so I don t want to hear about her!’”
However, it made both of them think, and they sought assistance from their parents. Amy went on to say:
“We asked our parents to dig up any preschool photos they had,”
“Justin’s mom found a photo of the two of us together and I just started crying, I was ecstatic. I was the Amy he had liked all those years ago! It was definitely meant to be.”
Justin told PEOPLE how he felt when he realised Amy was the same girl he had a crush on in preschool:
“Someone or something definitely decided we weren’t supposed to reconnect until now,”
“We’ve been so close to finding each other this whole time but didn’t until the time was right. And that’s now.”
“It was meant to be.”
The pair is now married and the proud parents of two lovely children!
